24 Weeks Pregnant...
Baby's fittin' nice and snug!

  • fetal age = 22 weeks

You're 24 weeks pregnant and your baby is about 12.5 inches long and weighs about 1.3 pounds. As your baby gets bigger, the space in your uterus gets tighter.

A lot of things are complete on baby now. The fingernails are finished, the ears are finished, eyelashes are well developed and hair continues to grow on baby's head.

Baby is now gaining about 3 ounces per week. Most of this weight is from bone mass, muscle, and the little organs. His body is filling out more and more with fat depositing under the skin. The palms of his hands are starting to show creases and the muscular coordination of the hands are improving.

Surfactant is starting to be produced in the baby's lung walls. This is what keeps the small air sacs in our lungs from collapsing. Of course baby keeps on practicing his breathing movements by inhaling amniotic fluid into the developing lungs.

The placenta is doing it's job by transmitting nutrients and oxygen from you to your baby. It also helps to eliminate waste products and carbon dioxide from the baby.

The placenta is also delivering antibodies from you to the baby so that he will have some protection in place for the first months after birth.
