27 Weeks Pregnant...
Welcome to the Third Trimester!
You're 27 weeks pregnant and your little baby is about 14.5 inches long and weighs about 2 whole pounds! The head is a little over 2.5 inches in diameter.
Your baby's skin is still translucent and thin and you can see the veins running through it. The bottoms of their little feet are still smooth.
The hair on their head is growing more and more everyday along with the eyebrows and eyelashes. Muscle tone is improving and baby is getting chubbier. If your baby is a boy, his testes will have completely descended by now.
The retina in your baby's eyes begin to develop and your baby's hearing continues to develop. Baby can blink now, opening and closing his eyes.
The baby's brain, liver and immune system still need more time to develop. The brain continues to rapidly grow and is very active now. What's baby thinking about I wonder?
Since you are getting so close to your due date, you must watch for signs of pre-mature labor. If your baby were born today there would be an 85 percent chance of surviving because with medical assistance, baby's lungs are capable of breathing air. Premature babies have a much higher risk of illness and complications and even death due to underdevelopment and low birth weight.
Baby should be getting into the head down position, getting ready for that journey down the birth canal within the next 13 weeks.
A baby born at 27 weeks has a good chance of survival although serious complications can occur.
The last trimester!!
Only 13 more weeks left (give or take a couple of days)...
