36 Weeks Pregnant
You're 36 weeks pregnant and your baby measures about 18.5 inches long and weighs about 6 whole pounds.
Congratulation on making it to your last month of pregnancy! I know it may have seemed like it took forever, but it's finally here. You and baby have come a long way.
Baby continues to gain weight while fat deposits under the skin and is forming creases in the neck and wrists. While all the other organs are completely developed, the lungs are still maturing.
Baby's skin is still covered in vernix, which is the white, slippery layer that protects him from all of that amniotic fluid he's been swimming in.
Your baby's face has filled out significantly and he has those cute little chubby cheeks. Baby has powerful sucking muscles and the skull is firm, but now hard. The amniotic fluid is at it's maximum amount now and your baby doesn't have as much room to move around like he used to. If you're having a baby girl, her labia are fully developed.
Baby's muscle tone has improved over the past few weeks and you'll be amazed at your baby's reflexes if you lay your finger into the palm of their hands.
Now, if your blessed with twins, the average time to give birth will occur between 36 and 37 weeks.
