38 Weeks Pregnant
You're 38 weeks pregnant and your baby is about 20 inches long and weighs about 7.5 pounds.
Your baby is continuing to build body fat which will help to regulate body temperature. Baby's skin is becoming more smooth and less wrinkled.
Since baby's development is complete, his main job now is to just gain weight. Your baby may have a full head of hair or maybe just a little peach fuzz.
Your baby's intestines are accumulating lots of meconium. This is a result of the baby swallowing the downy hair and vernix that's being shed, along with other secretions, and he stores it in his bowels. This blackish waste called meconium will be your baby's first yucky diaper.
Sometimes babies can have their first bowel movement before birth. That's usually a sign of stress and if this happens your health care provider will make sure that the baby's throat and lungs are suctioned thoroughly. About 30% of babies move their bowels before birth.
Baby's brain is still rapidly developing and will continue to grow and develop for years to come.
