9 Weeks Pregnant...
Start keeping a Journal

  • fetal age = 7 weeks

You're 9 weeks pregnant and your baby is about an inch long and weighs about 2 grams.

During this week the irises of the eyes can function, but the eyelids will remain fused together until later on in the pregnancy. The baby's external ears are formed and their inner ears are now filled with fluid. The kidney is in fact functioning now, which means that they have started urinating.

At 9 weeks your baby now has an itty bitty anus. The baby's intestine have started to move out of the umbilical cord into the baby’s abdomen, and your little baby is now taking his first few drinks of amniotic fluid.

9 week embryo Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves are starting to form. The fingers and toes are well defined even though they are still webbed and the finger prints are evident in the baby's skin. The tips of the fingers are a bit enlarged due to development of the touch pads. The arms and legs continue to extend in front of the body and are getting longer.

The tongue begins to develop while the larynx is already developing and the baby's brain waves can now be measured. The baby's veins are visible through it's thin skin.

The placenta is developed enough to take over nourishing your baby, so your body doesn't have to work so hard. Even though your body is still at work, it's not at rest...it just has a little more help now.

Your baby can move his body now and you may be able to see this on an ultrasound.

Doesn't it seem like it's already been forever? Up through your ninth week, your baby has went through so much development and changes...it's amazing isn't it?

Not looking pregnant just yet...

but your twiny, twin-twins up top are filling out

please excuse the baby dust, we're still developing
